ERASE: East of the River Action for Substance Abuse Elimination
Data-driven, community wellness
In the past 4 years, we have surveyed 11 of 13 school systems within our region to learn about students' experiences and feelings regarding alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other activities.
According to the 2012 Community Readiness Survey, the substance that is perceived to be a "significant problem" among all age groups is alcohol.
The Community Needs Assessment Workgroup identified alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs as the top three prevention priorities within the ERASE region.
Since 2009, we have invested 25% of our income in our community in the form of mini grants, stipends and coalition fiscal support.
Our student surveys indicate an 8% decline in alcohol use over the past 4 years, demonstrating coalitions, data driven planning and evidence based initiatives have a strong impact on reducing substance use.
